- ACDSee Photo Editor 10 is a low cost image processing package very much designed for the beginner using a Windows operating system.

- It is capable of making all of the most important editorial changes to your images, however, if you anticipate getting in to more advanced image processing I would opt for one of the other alternatives in

the beginners suite.

This is what the opening screen looks like after you have selected an image to edit:

- For the very beginner there are some instructive windows under the "How to...." label:

Left:

Panel of

"How To ..."

topics.

Right:

Expanded "How to ...."

pallet for "How to

Open an Image"

- Rather than having a Tools Column (as all other soft􀁺ware packages do) the Tools are found along the Menu Bar:

- When you use the palettes for making general changes to the images Presets are exposed for each of the controls.

- These Presets allow a quick editing of the image, but finer tuning is oft􀁺en required.

For the image in the opening screen (above) I tried the Auto Color Balance followed by the Auto Contrast - they certainly improved the image with two quick steps:

- I couldn't find a History Palette, but there is an Undo tool. So if you don't like an editorial change you need to reverse it straight away.

- Finer controls can be found under 'Adjustments' - where, for example, you will find the Levels/Curves panel.

- I used these and achieved the following result (note: this screen shot shows the Before and Aft􀁺er views):

Summary:

The ACDSee Photo Editor 10 can achieve all of your basic image processing needs.

However, it is not a natural candidate for taking things into more advanced image processing.
